Products
Rentech Energy Midwest Corporation (REMC) uses natural gas as a feedstock to produce its ammonia and ammonia-derivative products. (See Fertilizer discussion). In the process of producing these products, we capture the carbon dioxide that is generated to use as a feedstock to produce urea. We also sell the captured carbon dioxide to the food and beverage industry for carbonation, dry ice production, fire suppression, flash freezing, waste water system pH control, winemaking, and agricultural uses. Our carbon dioxide quality control process complies with standards established by the International Organization of Standardization and is ISO9001:2000 registered.
The Rentech Process can capture up to approximately 80% of all carbon dioxide generated during the production of our ultra-clean synthetic fuels and specialty waxes and chemicals. We have a contract to sell all of the carbon dioxide captured at our proposed Rentech Strategic Fuels and Chemicals Complex to Denbury Resources, Inc., an independent oil and gas company. Denbury will use the carbon dioxide for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), thereby increasing production from previously depleted domestic oil fields while effectively sequestering it as well. It is estimated that an additional two barrels of otherwise unrecoverable crude oil are produced when using the carbon dioxide generated from the production of one barrel of synthetic fuels. Please see the U.S. Department of Energy's Enhanced Oil Recovery/CO2 Injection site for more information on EOR.
